When do babies become less "spastic"

not sure exactly as my son also just turned one (today! YAY!), but i know the spastic movements are getting less and less by the week. at this point, babies still don't have full control of their movements, but i know they'll figure it out soon. the best way i can think to explain it now is like over correcting in the car. you are slightly in another lane, but whip the wheel to get out as quickly as you can, which makes you swerve into the lane to the other side. that's how his movements are to me...like he's so tired that he punches himself in the eye trying to rub it. he hasn't gotten the "gentle" concept yet. but my neighbor's son is about 8 months older than mine, and he's got it pretty well down (and has for some time). so it won't be too long!
