Physics? Rutherford's gold foil experiment?

It showed that the positive charges in the gold were clumped together in tight mes because the alpha particles were only deflected when they were close to one of these clumps. When farther away the alpha particles were not deflected. When they were fired directly at a clump the alpha was deflected backwards.. This showed that the positive charges were tightly packed into what we today call the nucleus.
