What do the Freemasons or Knights of the Templar use the Swords for? I just found one in the attic from 1912?

How much are these worth? What did they use them for? I found one which is in mint condition: no stains, no cuts, no chips, encased in a highly ornate casing. The freemason symbol of the comp and a bunch of other artwork is carved into the sword and the case. Its beautiful. I'm not going to sell it. Its not mine. Its just something i happened to find while looking for an ironing board in an attic.
